The reason why I went to Japan a couple of weeks ago was for the press junket of Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. It was a thrill for both me and Rito Asilo of the Inquirer to be among the first in the world to watch this latest masterpiece from director Michael Bay. I was fortunate enough to have been sent to the junket of the first Transformers movie which was held in Korea a couple of years ago. There I interviewed Michael Bay and Megan Fox. So this is sort of like a “reunion" for me and Megan whom I was slated to interview along with the sexy duo of Tyrese Gibson and Josh Duhamel.
Neither Rito nor I have been to Japan before. So this trip to Tokyo was so exciting for both of us. We landed at the Narita airport around 7:30p.m. Not bad. We can grab dinner near the hotel. But our hotel was actually two hours away! So by the time we had checked in (lobby was on the third floor, very confusing) and dropped our stuff in our rooms, all the restos within the hotel complex were closed. Save for Family Mart. We had no choice but to have cup noodles as our first meal in Japan. We vowed to have an authentic Japanese meal the next day to make up for our sad dinner!
The next day we checked in with the organizers of the junket. We got our tickets for the red carpet premiere that will take place later in the evening. Rito and I walked around the area, checking out malls and eating one Japanese meal after another. Fun and tiring!
The evening of June 8, 2009 was the first time that the press (and even the Transformers actors themselves!) will get to watch Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The actors and the director did the usual red carpet interviews on the street leading to the Toho Cinemas. Asian and international press interviewed the sexy Megan Fox, the charming Shia Labeouf, the icon Michael Bay, newcomers Isabel Lucas and Ramon Rodriguez, heartthrob Josh Duhamel and the energetic Tyrese Gibson.
There was a stage setup also where a yellow Camaro “transformed" (with the help of several smoke machines) into a huge and impressive Bumblebee figure. After almost two hours, the actors finally went inside the cinemas where the attendees (which included Rito and I) eagerly awaited. The crowd was composed of press people and also some Asian movie and TV celebrities. After a short speech from the actors and Michael Bay , the movie finally started!
